Marcin Gortat returns to the Magic

   Marcin Gortat

Center Marcin Gortat was committed to the Dallas Mavericks, he was telling friends while he was in Poland that he was going to be a Maverick. Well not the Orlando Magic matched it, he is a  member of the Magic.

“He was definitely disappointed today,”  Gortat’s agent, Guy Zucker, said of Gortat. He saw limited time to show his true potential behind All-Star center Dwight Howard. He showed good stints in the 2009 NBA Playoffs, Helping close out the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 6 of the first round.  Then, against the Cleveland Cavailers in the Eastern Confrence Finals, he blocked MVP LeBron James a few times.

“It was definitely about the opportunity to find out how good he can really be,” Zucker said. “We had requested that Orlando not match the offer. We stated the fact that he sincerely wanted the chance to carve his own path, be his own man, so to speak, which is not going to be realistically possible in Orlando.”

Retaining Gortat and adding Bass will likely take the Magic’s payroll into the $80 million range for next season, which would force Orlando to cut a luxury-tax check of more than $10 million in July 2010 barring roster moves between now and June 30 of next year to lower that figure.

Gortat will probably be traded, though.
